Fisheries in Victoria

Victoria’s fisheries are diverse and geographically extensive. We have productive coastal, bay, inlet and freshwater fisheries where commercial, aquaculture and recreational fisheries occur.

Our management of fisheries is focused on securing a high quality natural resource base for the long term, as well as generating economic and social benefits in our communities. Our aim is to secure, share and grow our fisheries resources in an ecologically sustainable way for now and the future.

	New recreational catch limit for shrimp A revised limit for shrimp removes the need to count small, live, swimming shrimp.
	Pipi harvesting in Venus Bay The reduced catch limit for pipis within the Cape Liptrap Coastal Park remains in place this summer.
	2009/10 sixty recreational abalone open days in central Victorian waters The open days are centred around weekends and public holidays between 21 November 2009 and 2 May 2010.
	Fisheries consultative arrangements Minister Helper’s policy statement on new consultative arrangements for Victoria’s fisheries resources has now been established.
	Recreational Fishing Forums Eight public meetings are being held across Victoria - have your say about future opportunities for recreational fishing and view the list of ideas that have already come out of forums held so far.
	New Recreational Fishing Grants Working Group A newly appointed group will advise Minister Helper on how to best spend fishing licence fees.
	Port Phillip Bay recreational fishing reefs On 16 May three new reefs were launched as part of the Enhanced Recreational Fishing Program. Video available!
